This is maybe the best of the best of this very nice series. Very enigmatic in its PP, which I like a lot.What is there inside the car behind the closed window? Is it a girl near the dog on the R? I like the blurred lighted /shadowed whole as well the BG that hints what is in the other side.

There was no girl, although as you say , which I very much appreciate , this is rather enigmatic and there are any number of possibilities for interpreting what lays in the shadows. There are a lot of reflections as there are four dirty car windows between the farthest dog and my camera. The boxer dog in the foreground was in a car immediately beside my car and the dog in focus in the background is in yet another car further along in the parking lot. Beyond that dog are the window frames of other cars. Some of the foreground shadows are reflections of my coat coming from the inside of my car window, others are the body of the dog in the car next to mine. The weather was cold and snowing so there is also considerable amounts of slush and condensation on the various layers of glass.

I'd say this is the most Gordon-like of the series, and I don't say that lightly. Not only is it Gordon-like in its expectations, it's Gordon-like in its non-expectations as well. It's a Gordon reaching beyond itself, yet still recognizable as such, always a tough thing to accomplish when you've developed a photographic voice as strong as yours. It does nicely complement the others in the series, for me, because it adds range and, while some of the others are taking you to new places stylistically and post-processing-wise, this is taking your own style to a sort of peak. I think, together, they tell a story of the rough-and-ready and the more refined and how each has character and charm. Here, the depth you set up is strong and, as always, there is an abstract feeling in the work yet that abstraction is founded in very relatable and distinct visual representations. I know what everything is but questions abound nevertheless. For me, it's less about questions, actually, less about what is here before me, and more about wonder. It just tickles my imagination and gets my mind to wandering. What more could I ask from a photograph.

The series Dogs in Cars is the work of a sophisticated documentarian who maintains a consistent look and shared aesthetic with each of the pictures belonging to a collective.

But this here shot is another experience and in both look and feeling stands independent from all others. Not so much a 'documentary' image but an ART picture offering the viewer an ephemeral vibe the others were not aiming for and which Fred perfectly describes as being. . . 'less about what is here before me, and more about wonder.'

it sure looks very surreal to me and as such I like it very much. I'm not sure that it fits in that well with the rest of your series just because of that.

At first moment my sight said me: Two images in one! and in somehow is an image but I think that can work as two different stories: The dog cautive into the car and the dog free.Best regards

Thanks for such a thought provoking response to this photo and the series in general. As you note I have been using this series as a playground for some of my recent forays into uncharted waters, most of which are more conventional waters but nonetheless many of which are new to me. This situation presented an opportunity to explore some of my roots while still trying to stretch a bit. I am particularly thankful for your comment that this is Gordon-like in its non-expectations.

You are so right that I was aiming for a different vibe with this one. A fun aspect of trying developing this idea into a series is the diverse territory I see to be mining as I move along. I am glad this one strikes you as it is one of my favourites to date.

Ton;

I respect and completely understand what you are saying about this photos place in the series to date. Lets see if that changes as things unfold.

Thanks for offering such a creative interpretation of my photo. I love hearing how the story unfolds from your perspective.

Gord, a dog's inquisitive stare and another dog's muzzle at rest. Isn't that all there is to life? What you see is what you get. No hidden agenda stuff and no pretentions; they're left in a car to wait and wonder and I'm so grateful to see into another moment of their simplistic existence.

Yeah there are times when I look at my two dogs and feel envious of their level of contentment and lack of cares..... but then I remember that I'm the only one who can open the fridge and I feel better about my lot in life :-)
