gisiklar 0 Posted November 29, 2009 This was quite a (un)lucky shot. I was after an interesting building just next to this window. I pulled my car, took several shots from the car window and then just before moving on, I saw this opportunity. I took a few more shots without paying too much attention and moved on. Now, I know that I probably missed a much better chance of capturing the scene… Hopefully next time… Thanks for your time, comments & critiques, which I really appreciate. Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted November 29, 2009 I think the story, such as it is, is there and you did good to shoot this. However, including elements in a photo can add or distract and I for one ask myself that question. In that sense I personally see those dustbins not adding a lot to this photo, especially looking at the size and placement of the old woman in your photo. Apart from that your b&w conversion needs some work as well. In using a few adjustment layers and adding some contrast I provide you with an alternative. Link to comment
gisiklar 0 Posted November 29, 2009 Ton, Thanks for your time, very helpful comments and demonstration of how to make the photo better. I totally agree with your points. Actually, I had a cropped version similar to yours and I had a high contrast version too (not in the same picture though). Interesting thing is that this photo is really already so much cropped that I did not want to crop it even further. As for the bins, I decided to leave them in as I thought they increase feeling of loneliness a little bit and create some contrast with some of the elements on the window. But I guess I was wrong in that line of thought. I have had a chance to visit your B&W work and they are really incredible. Thanks again for your time and useful comments. Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted November 29, 2009 `But I guess I was wrong in that line of thought` that is not the point. It isn´t about right or wrong but about making choices and following a train of thought. For that you have to keep questioning yourself and your motivations. It´s what I do. Link to comment
witness 0 Posted November 29, 2009 Ton's suggestion is a good one. If it's isolation and mood your after, I would suggest additional filters to enhance this feeling. For example I used a gradient fog and darkened to lower right-hand corner to both increase the feeling of isolation as well as draw the eyes to the main subject. The great thing with digital is you can try many things non-destructively to create or support the intent of your photo. Nice capture here. Link to comment
gisiklar 0 Posted November 29, 2009 Mark & Ton: Again thanks for your invaluable comments. I had hesitated putting this photo for critique but now I have learned so much from your comments that I am very happy I did so. Link to comment
Selamlar, sevgiler... Link to comment
