morey_kitzman 0 Posted January 31, 2003 In this version of the arch the light was less intense on the arch and the distant mountains started to glow. Compare to other version in My Best Images folder. Which one works better? Your comments and ratings are appreciated. Thanks. Link to comment
atle.g 0 Posted January 31, 2003 Both are good but i personally like the tonality of this one better. Probably because the foreground is toned down a bit and leading my eyes better to back mountains that has more color and better lightning in this version. Regards! Link to comment
scott bulger 0 Posted January 31, 2003 Beautiful image Morey. Very minor nit, the nob of stone in the very lower right bothers me a bit, but insignificant in the overall scheme of things. Link to comment
mike_borenstein 0 Posted January 31, 2003 I like the vibrance of the mountians in this exsposure a little better, but I think the arch is more porperly exsposed in the other photo. Over all however, I think this one better captures the icredible beauty of the scene. Link to comment
fred_j._lord 0 Posted February 1, 2003 Morey: Is this another frame you found? I like it immensely! The hues and values are extravagantly rich. Nice work! Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted February 2, 2003 I love the light in this photo. I think that, IMHO, the depth of the photo and the details in the mountains adds strength to the shot. In the other one, the mountains are not as well defined. Link to comment
denis_m 0 Posted February 3, 2003 It must be a kind of magic place 'cause we can see some pictures of this arch but it's always attractive to my eyes mostly when the light & the photographer together give us this magnificent result. Link to comment
kyle_cassidy 0 Posted February 3, 2003 fantastic shot of a fantastic location. the location's only half of it, the rest is knowing when to be there. Link to comment
wyatt 0 Posted February 3, 2003 I think this is the strongest image- the light on the mountains adds depth to the scene and captires the moment. Nice work. Link to comment
darrin james 0 Posted February 6, 2003 Contrasts, leading eye, interesting subject, colours. This has got it all Link to comment
alethea_steingisser1 0 Posted February 9, 2003 I don't want to sound rude, but everybody has done this shot. Great colors and composition as far as the photography. My suggestion--you have a good eye---take it to a location that no one has ever seen!! Landscape photography is hard in this aspect--we want to surprise the viewer with a new perspective and place! keep up the good work and travel as far and as often as you can! Link to comment
morey_kitzman 0 Posted February 9, 2003 Alethea Thanks for your comments, but I must take issue with the idea of originality. Yes, this picture has been done many times, but that is what makes photographing it that more challenging and interesting. To be able to capture it in a different way, with a different light. If there are those who claim it lacks originality, let them compare the different versions of the arch and see if they are really the same. If you could have stood in this place as I did and watched the light dim on the arch and than light up on the mountains, you would have said, this is unique and a new interpretation. This place is one of the most magical spots in the United States as far as the play of light and structure is concerned and each time I go there I see it differently. Having said that, I agree that one must venture out and explore new vistas, however, there is something to be said about refining our photographic eye by visiting areas that have been highly photographed. In any case, one does not say to the sunset each evening, why don't you learn to glow in some different way, we have seen this all before. Why not just enjoy the image and see if there is something special that the artist has brought to it, instead of dismissing it as unoriginal, because it resembles others. Take the time to notice how the intepretation is different. Shakespeare's plays have been produced thousands of times and no one says the next version lacks originality, we see what the artists brings. Again,I appreciate your comment, I have heard it before and this was a good opportunity to respond to it. I believe this originality rating is too often misinterpreted, as in in "saw it before, down go the ratings". Imagine Shakespeare in the same vain. Happy shooting. Link to comment
slide 0 Posted February 11, 2003 Wow, even better coors on this shot, then your other delicate arch photo. I think I'd crop a little off the top and maybe right on this one too. Link to comment
ben neptun 0 Posted February 13, 2003 I've seen too many critique requests for this overshot and misnamed "Delicate Arch," so no more words from me. Link to comment
jim_wedlake2 0 Posted February 21, 2003 Great light, was there some Photoshop done on this image? Link to comment
jens_erik_nygaard 0 Posted March 9, 2003 Colours and details is excellent! I suggest you crop it on the right side to get a better balance in the picture. Link to comment
dkatz02 0 Posted October 16, 2003 You have a very amazing eye for color - this shot seems a little too centered, but the red is fabulous Link to comment
