The Kiss

This isnt a techniclly great photo and its a scan of a photo and not

a negative. However this is one of my only epiphanous moments as a

photographer. I was standing around with some friends trying to

decide what to eat when something told me to move. I swung around

behind me with my trusty canon a-1 that I happened to be holding and

snapped this shot barely bothering to focus and compose.

Personally I don't see a lot in here to be positive about other than the fact that it catches a moment. As a snap shot of friends it has a strong place in the photo album, but its too dark etc to convey other strong messages. A closer crop, in black and white with teh contrast reduced in photoshop might, at a push, make for a more powerful composition.

Yes you caught the moment but what makes Doisneau's and others' "Kisses" work is that there are other things - compositional and contextual elements and such - to look at other than the primary subjects. Here we have just the couple and not much else, making for a less interesting photograph.
