Anna,

She is a very pretty girl. You have focused very well on her eyes. Her skin tone is wonderful. She has very good eye contact with the camera (viewer). To be honest, I don't really know what her expression is communicating to me. If I figure it out, I will come back and add it later. Right now she looks rather spooky. Part of it might be the unusual shape of the catch lights. I am wondering if she can perform a Vulcan mind meld without touching another person?

I like the rather high contrast effect on her hair. It works very well for this portrait. Her make-up looks quite good, but with an extreme close-up she must be very careful to separate and evenly space her eyelashes. Any imperfection will show in the photograph. It wouldn't hurt to have just a little eyeliner under her eyes to make then stand out even more.

It looks like your lighting should be flat, with that deep shadow under her chin, but you have somehow created beautiful shading on her face. My complements to you -- it looks great -- as does the very nice specular highlights on her lips.

Notice the neckline of her top. The viewer's eyes will go to the “V” of the neckline and follow it down and out of the photograph because there is nothing there to stop it. You should try to crop below where the neckline comes together so that the viewer's eyes have a place to stop.

You have cropped very far into her head. To compositionally balance the top and bottom of this photograph you would have to do an extremely tight crop on the bottom. I think it best to crop less on top.

Be careful of "flyaway" hairs that are close to, or in her eyes. They can be a distraction for the viewer. I am assuming that is a mole on her right cheek near her hair.

Nice shot,

Mark

Excellent choice to do this in black and white which makes the models hair just outstanding. Nice lighting and nice eye contact with the camera.
