Orion Nebula HDR

astropics

Layered HDR 2 image mosaic of the Orion Nebula. Taken with an 8" Meade LX200 Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope and a Canon XTi. Guided with a Meade LPI through the viewfinder. 13x30 sec and 9x300 sec images were stacked in Deep Sky Stacker. HDR creation and mantiuk tonemapping was performed in Qtpfsgui, noise was reduced with Neat Image, and finally the image was stitched together with Autostitch.

This is the first time I've attempted to apply true HDR methods to my

astrophotography, with multiple exposure settings to capture as much

dynamic range as possible. Thanks for looking!

Hi Scott,

Combining mutiple images of varying exposures is a technique that has been in practice for some time in the astrophotography field, and certainly long before the HDR craze swept the photography field. You have done it very well here, and I'm sure that you will be delighted with future results as well. Well done! I'm looking forward to more.
