obi-wan-yj 0 Posted November 4, 2009 Darian and Malik (I *think* Darian is on the bottom) were five daysold in this shot. Even at 6 lbs each, they don't eat much at eachsitting, so one of them or another is constantly eating. I had hopedto get a whole series of them together on the blanket, but this isliterally the only exposure I got. They held this pose forapproximately 1.7 seconds before the top one threw a fit. I'm verythankful that the exposure was set properly and I got a reasonablefocus in time. I had intended for this to just be a test shot tocheck my flash power.I'm new to this whole off-camera flash thing. I know the pose isn'tthe most compelling, but what else could I have done to improve the shot? Link to comment
kathughes 0 Posted November 4, 2009 i think i would crop this as a horizontal shot. you could get rid of alot of the white at the top of the photo, and give it a more intimate feel. how do you find the time to shoot photos with two neonates in the house??? touching photo. kat Link to comment
chevy 0 Posted November 4, 2009 I would agree with Kat that it needs to be cropped from the top, but other than that this is a very nice shot of the kids... Link to comment
ianward 0 Posted November 4, 2009 Excellent Ben and tastefully done. I think if you mounted it as it is and hung it on the wall it would be a pleasing photo and it would not be the ordinary "ideally" cropped image. Link to comment
obi-wan-yj 0 Posted November 5, 2009 Thanks for the comments. They're my niece's kids, not mine, which explains how I have time behind the camera. :-) I'm not sure about the crop. I can't make it any wider than it is, since what you see here is the full frame. The top half doesn't have much value in it, but cropping it to a nearly square shot seems like an uninteresting shape to me. Logistically, it might make framing easier, though. I certainly wouldn't want to crop this shot into a true horizontal, because that would require removing some of the bottom and making an uncomfortably tight shot around their bodies. I dunno. Maybe square would work well. I wish I had more than one shot from this pose to work with. I certainly would have taken some horizontal ones as well. Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted November 5, 2009 I applaud you for trying to do something creative with this, but gosh....maybe I'm a traditionalist, but when you have such a compelling subject, I don't think you need to do a thing to it. You've done a beautiful job on this, but I'd like to see them up as close as possible....to see every little detail in their bodies. It's a very intimate shot, and I think closer is better. I don't think a more traditional crop would look boring once you added a mat and frame. But I'm just one opinion. Nevertheless, I absolutely love this shot! Link to comment
nanc1 0 Posted November 6, 2009 Great job! Love it!! I know all to well what its like to try and get little ones to stay posed. Love babies the only think i would have done is maybe have the one arm pulled back a little as it draws me to look at it a lot.The one that's laying over top. Not sure if its my computer screen but is there a light grey spot just over to the left over the head? Link to comment
