I pulled out this image for upload and decided to dedicate it to those fellows photo.net members who just love to rate low tons of pictures without leaving ANY comments/suggestions (I ain't saying even constructive comments) to the authors. You're being invited here, folks! Shoot at will! 8-)

So that's the trick....it's still 'above average!' I really like the green cast and the diagonal cut by the railing. I would prefer the bird to be out of focus and a 90 degree clockwise rotation seems to be called for. I think you ought to desaturate the water; and paint the eye black - there's too much detail for an awful shot. (Maybe an eye patch?)

Hope my comments assist you in some way.

Seven, thanks for your comments and suggestions. My intention was exactly as you've described it as a "trick". I know, it's very easy to take a close-up picture of a gull, even with a lens at 70 mm. The boring nature of the subject matter is obvious, and I've tried to compensate it compositionally, as well as get as much sharpness as possible. Considering the lens I shot this picture with has a crack on the front element, I succeeded in the latter. But again, those folks with little or no showed on the site personal practical experience in taking pictures, and as a result poor understanding photography itself, couldn't get it anyway. Like a bull running on red, they are willing to disgorge flames as soon as they see a gull or a similarly boring object. So far my collection of such ratings is quite modest, but I hope the list is gonna keep growing.

The bluish color cast bothers me.

I like the one foot rising; an almost "Bresson-like" moment.

It's always another individuals opinion...
