peter crosstone 0 Posted November 3, 2009 Hi george, This reminds me of a kaleidoscope. Or Lucy in the sky with diamonds. I see your imagination at work with these shots. You must have been here back in the Sixties? How did you do this? These are great! Are these actual photos? 7/7 Humbly, Peter Christoph Link to comment
tfactory 1 Posted November 3, 2009 Peter, The smoke shots were done with studio flashing and a black backdrop. You have to be sure to position the flash so that it doesn’t light up the backdrop or bounce off your camera lens. I added blinders to the flash to help with keeping the flash in the direction of the smoke. I used incense to generate the smoke. I pre-focused a spot where the smoke would rise. Since the flash needs time to recover, I shot single shots. Lots of them. The fun starts with the processing of your photo. With all the available shapes you have, anything can come of it. I choose shapes that would accommodate my initial thought process, but I found as you manipulate the shapes you find yourself just going with the flow as your photo starts to take shape. For this photo, I would select pieces/shapes of the smoke and blend them together. Once I had the basic design format, I continued to recopy it, and over-lay it to construct this abstract. I am still learning this process and have high hopes for more detailed photos in the future. Thanks for the feedback. g Link to comment
