smhickel 0 Posted January 24, 2003 This is one of my favorite NZ landscapes. The subtlety of the brush and trees makes me want to rush back and see more. Link to comment

mmmee 0 Posted January 24, 2003 Do landscapes have a 'point' of interest. Or is it about the whole scene? I am no expert, but I would think a landscape scene would encompass the whole scene without any one point being too overwhelming. Correct me if I am wrong. This is about learning, after all. I like the compostion of this photo. Five levels of different, distinct interest. The grass in the foreground could be reduced a tad. Great colors and light. Link to comment
smhickel 0 Posted January 24, 2003 I believe it is about light. Now, snapshot, imo, it is not, but I respect that to mean the subject isn't that original, but then this is New Zealand 24 years ago. It is documentary in that regard. Note that there are no houses to be seen anyplace, nowhere. If this were anywhere else, it would loaded with houses and perhaps is today. So, snapshot of history, of a place on the other side of the world, a slice of nature, and shades of nature that are subtely compelling and layered with enough variety to break it up and provide a viewer detail and historical perspective. Also, this photo can be blown up to fill a 20x30" canvas and last 250 years only adding more meaning to any who ever wanted to know what NZ was like on the Sourthern Island of New Zealand in 1980. thanks, Steve Link to comment
