My first image 2003. Messengers: Time: 4 o´clock in the afternoon in the twilight zone. Temperature: - 14°C. I´ve uploaded a better scanned image, as close to the previus image as possible. Thanks in advance for your ratings and comments. Copyright: Baldur Birgis

Very nice colors and arrangement! But I need to ask... is it real?? It seems there are far too many poles too close together for practicality.

Good job with the 300 mm lens on these posts. The wildly accentuated colors are a bit much to my eyes, though, esp. the bright blue snow.

Thanks for the comments! It is real and the colors are 95% reality (made brighter) as they where before the sunset. Temperature was -14°C

I fully believe the colors are real. This a good example of elementary physics.

The poles (and the top of the mountains) appear red because are directly illuminated by the sun low on the horizon. In this case, the sun rays have to pass through the low haze, which absorbs the blue and gives a red tint to their light (that's why the sun appears red at sunset).

The ice and the ground, on the contrary, are not directly illuminated by the sun. They receive indirect illumination from the light scattered by the atmosphere. This kind of scattering is most efficient in the blue region of the visible spectrum, which produces the blue cast (that is why the sky appears blue).

Beautiful colors and composition. Baldur, could you discuss your cropping here? The pole on the right edge seems to be removable without affecting the image, or its message, maybe even making a stronger composition. My inclination is to just blurt out that I think it should have been cropped out, but maybe I should inquire as to your intent in leaving it.

Thanks for your interest Doug. I made 3 different shots, two without the pole on the right side. The shot nr. 2 (this one) was the best. I considered cropping it the way you said but in the end my feeling was keeping it as it is.

That is, why did you consider this best? Not to be argumentative, but clearly there was a decision here in your choosing number 2 (this one) and I am curious as to how you arrived at it, that is, what you considered more or less important about keeping or eliminating that pole. I'm not questioning your decision, just wondering how you made it, what your thoughts were as you compared the images.

Doug: I made a decision before this shot. I didn´t change my mind scanning it because I felt more connected to the poles by keeping the first one on the right side as I do. That was my final decision. Many thanks again for your interest.

excellent .... very good the cutted pole on the right hand side, only the 1 little pole in the background distracts a bit, from the viewpoint 'perfect aesthetic .... wonderful shot Sir!

very nice Pic, Baldur! The contrasting and unusual colors make this image so different. (thank you for commenting my pic)

very interesting composition colorwise and perspective wise. I was about to ask the same question as Doug did... I arrived too late!
