lalit 0 Posted October 29, 2009 Majestic location, but your capture is beautiful with the light on the peaks, the clouds and especially the light reflected from the foreground rocks. Best, +Lalit Link to comment

mike_van_essen 0 Posted October 31, 2009 Chip, I'm a huge fan of your work so please don't take this the wrong way. You are miles ahead of me as a photographer. This image seems to be manipulated a bit too much for my taste. The color of the sky just isn't right. Also it appears darker than parts of the lake. The lighting of the trees on the right shorline seems off to me. The lower part is lit up but higher up the ridgeline is dark. This seems improbable to me. I know this area well. I shoot several times a year there. The angle is very steep from the mountain on the left allowing very little light in early morning, even less so in the fall. I suppose it is possible that clouds played a role. I'll give you a tip. There is a thin trail on the left shoreline. Very few people venture over there. You can get some unique angles from there. 14mm lens or 17 tilt/shift would come in handy there. I've only seen a couple of published shots from over there and they are by far my favourites. Watch out if it is wet though. The rocks are extremely slippery. Link to comment
chip phillips 0 Posted October 31, 2009 Thanks for the comments guys. Mike- I used a 3 stop grad for this and tried to even out the exposure to where it looked natural to me(I probably could have gotten away with a 2 stop). I could probably go darker for the foreground, but I kind of like it as is. The color is pretty much "as shot" and has some increased sat. from the polarizer and grads. Glad your a fan of my work and thanks for the comments. Link to comment

rockymountnreverie 0 Posted February 3, 2010 No critique here. I did want to ask if you used any type of polarizer on this? I also wanted to say that I can be the first here to stand behind Chip when he mentions that this photo is nearly 'as shot' as it can be. The sky and the glacier-fed lakes in the Canadian Rockies, particularily Banff and Jasper area, are often thought to be overly-enhanced in photo's. Most of the time, this is not the case; this place is really like this. This is my destination, AND reason, for photography ... but I'm just starting out. Well done, Chip!!! Link to comment
