jrickert 2 Posted November 6, 2009 This is a Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly caterpillar. Before they pupate, they turn a dark brown color. Those aren't its eyes, but the place where the wings will be. Comments and critique welcome. Thank you. Link to comment

jrickert 2 Posted November 6, 2009 Thank you, Sam. I was not confident about this image. I feel better now. I am not really sure what I did right. I captured this image in my garden (I actually set this caterpillar on my garbage can) in order to send an email, because I wasn't sure if it was poisonous. It isn't. Ronald Alan Royer, Ph.D. , Professor in the Division of Science, (Room 230 Cyril Moore Science Center, Minot State University, Minot ND 58707) gave me the information about this caterpillar via email. drickert 0 Posted November 6, 2009 Those "eyes" are something else. Kinda scary looking when you look at so close. Good capture, composition, focus and DOF are spot on in my opinion (really highlighted those "eyes). Link to comment

jrickert 2 Posted March 25, 2010 Thank you for your compliments. Andreas--The background is actually the top of a blue garbage can. The children in my neighborhood found this caterpillar in their front yard, knocked on my door, and asked me if I wanted to photograph it. (They know I love photography). Link to comment
