The light and the land were so generous. Did I succeed in capturingthe glory of that Fall afternoon?

You may rate it if you like, but I'm really interested incritiques. What would you improve - and how?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Val,

In my opinion there is too much going on in this picture. There is nothing in particular that catches the eye. Instead my eye seems to scan ll the photo and it keeps coming back to that dark area at the top left which looks out of place.

The dark shadows in the centre are also quite distracting. maybe it would have been better to change your point of view and have one thing as the main area of interest in the picture., such as the house.

Anyway don't give up.

All the best,

Mark S.,

Dublin.

Hi Val,

The light is simply gorgeous. I think your frame is a bit tight and dosent let the picture to breath.

When I saw it I was thinking of rolling hills with shadow and light into play. maybe that could be your subject.

Regards

Nikos

@ Lokesh: I think you are right about the top right corner needing some breathing space. But I had to crop there in order to get rid of some disturbing elements just above that line. I should have paid attention when I took the picture.

Thanks for critique!

@ Mark: The dark area at the top is the shadowed slope of the next hill and I was quite happy to include it as a way of giving some depth to the whole picture - but it doesn't seem to work.

Thanks for your detailed critique! I'm planning to go back there quite soon, if weather permits.

@ Nikos: I'm glad you feel the same about the light. As for tight framing, it's partially because of some distracting elements I had to get rid off, and partially because of my basic rule "get as close as possible, frame as tight as possible" - and sometimes I tend to overdo it.

Thanks for the critique!

The others have said it, and you have responded. It's too bad you had to crop so close to the upper right corner. I don't know what was to the left, but I might have forgotten about the upper building and tried to do a composition, probably zoomed in, with the building on the left (nice foreground trees to work with). However, there's a fire and white smoke, and that is going to immediately attract the eye, which is unfortunate. Lots of nice elements; hard to find a good angle, I suspect.
