RickDB 10 Posted October 26, 2009 ...not just for its excellent visual impact, but also for the techical accomplishment of stitching together 32 shots under conditions where parallax errors are difficult to avoid. A couple of questions: Did you use a pano head on your tripod or is PTGUI capable of resolving the parallax issues? Firing off just one handheld shot, let alone 32, from your vantage point is difficult, so how did you get away with using a tripod from the center of the Blue Mosque when tripods are not permitted? Very well done! Cheers, RickDB Link to comment
heider 0 Posted October 26, 2009 Dear Rick, thank you for such kind and supportive comment, much appreciated. I believe PTGui is a very capable and consistent software, may be the best in the market today. It has a remarkable and consistent capability of correcting parallax errors, so you won’t need these expensive panoramic heads ever. In fact, I only use the tripod when there is a possibility of camera shake. PTGui can stitch handheld shots very powerfully, An example is the Interior of Hagia Sofia under Istanbul folder, where lighting conditions where very difficult. Parallax errors can happen sometimes when using a very wide lens (Like the 15mm FE f2.8 which I am using in most cases), specially when the distance between the camera and the photographed subject is too short (such as tight interiors like a small room). Using a panoramic head won’t really solve this issue, however shifting to a 24mm or 28mm lens would solve this issue and it would require more shots for sure. Now, Tripods are not allowed inside Sultan Ahmet, however, I didn’t know that until I was asked very politely by the security to stop using the tripod. Those couple of minutes allowed for the 32 frames that resulted in this panorama, you can say that I was very lucky. But even with out a tripod, I would have just pushed the ISO to 400 and used f.2.8 to achieve a similar result. However I must say that I prefer using the tripod so that I go for ISO 100 and f/8.0 which will result in very sharp images. Again thank you for your kind comments. Kind Regards Link to comment
dionysmoser 0 Posted October 26, 2009 Oh, a very nice result of your handheld photos. I also use PTGUI and I am very satiesfied with the results. Mostly I use the ballhead to get a better sharpness. thank your for showing us that photo. Dionys Link to comment

hagar 7,462 Posted November 21, 2009 I was a little perplexed when I looked at the shot.. I seemed to remember the tripod ban in there. I am glad you snuck the shots in before they stopped you.. the final result is gorgeous, and something we rarely see. If I had that photo I would definitely be printing and hanging it..
