Guest Guest Posted October 19, 2009 Maurizio, She is a pretty girl. You have focused well on her eyes and have good catch lights. She has very good eye contact with the camera (viewer). I like her expression very much. It is very pleasant. Her skin tone is good, but she is flushed. You need to tone down the redness on her face. Notice that the whites of her eyes are not white. This should be corrected. There is a blue and yellow cast to her teeth. It would be best to whiten them, also. I would like to see more light on her left eye. It is lost in the shadow. I would soften her face just a bit to smooth out her complexion. You have cropped very close to her left eye and covered up a good portion of her face with her arm. Be careful of foreshortening. Watch for anything closer to the camera than the body. Feet, knees, hands, elbows and shoulders will look out of proportion (larger than normal -- foreshortened) to the rest of the body, if they are in front of the body. You have to be very careful of shooting a close-up of the face with a lens shorter than about 110 mm (film or FX digital) or 170 mm (DX digital). Shorter lenses can make the nose appear excessively large. The posing of her left arm and hand (and her right hand) is very awkward. It is neither very feminine nor graceful looking. The spots of color on the background between her hands draws attention away from her face. Your depth of field is very narrow. Her jaw line is not in focus and it blends in with her out of focus neck. I don't see a good reason to have any of her out of focus. An out of focus background is very nice and focuses attention on your subject. Parts of your subject out of focus draw attention away from her face. Your initials are not part of the photograph. You may put your name on the mat with or without the date if you wish. Nice shot, Mark Link to comment
First of all, I do agree with some of what Mark said. I can forgive the foreshortening and wrist wrinkles in the name of naturalness. I like the tight crop, and the way it creates an intimate and candid feel. A bit longer lens might have helped the perspective, though. White balance is the real problem here. She is blue, blue, blue. And I don't think it assorts well with the look and feel of the image. So I tried a fairly simple edit. Corrected WB in Camera Raw, added a touch of desaturation in the reds, and some slight skin softening/evening-out. Link to comment
william_staniforth 0 Posted October 22, 2009 Beautiful image , very apt title . I agree with some of the previous comments and Les's edit has done wonders for the colours . It is still an excellent shot as it is . Bill Link to comment
