Guest Guest Posted October 14, 2009 Oleg, What a cute girl! You have focused well on her pretty blue eyes. She has good eye contact with the camera (viewer) and a nice smile. The sun coming in from behind works as a nice hair light to help separate her from the background. Too bad it wasn't coming in from the other side to better separate her hair from the dark tree bark. The background is nicely out of focus. Her skin tone is nice, but be careful of the red blotches on her face. You will want to remove some of her skin imperfections, too. Her make-up doesn't look too bad, but tell her to watch her application of mascara on her bottom eyelashes. She could use a little eyeliner under her eyes. It would help her eyes stand out. She has her face tilted down quit a bit. You have lost the tops of her eyes and her catch lights. The lighting is very flat. It looks like you have used the camera's flash as your main light. Judicious use of shadows can produce a very nice illusion of depth within your photograph and make it much more interesting. Tilting her head down with that big of a smile makes her cheeks look chubby. I would be careful of that. I am not real sure why your would want to shoot a vertical subject horizontally. You have a lot of water next to her for no apparent reason. You want to compositionally balance the left and right sides of the photograph. The compositional "rule" for this suggests that you position the tip of the subject's nose in the vertical center of the photograph. Notice her neckline and her necklace. The viewer's eyes will go to those lines and follow them down and out of the photograph because there is no place to stop. The "V" formed by those lines needs a place for the eyes to stop. If you would back up a little (zoom out) you could include where those "V"s come together. This would give the viewer's eyes that stopping point. You do not want the eyes of the viewer to leave the photograph. There is something light colored in the lower left corner of the photograph. This draws my attention away from the subject's face. This is rather annoying. Nice shot, Mark Link to comment
