paullink 1 Posted October 18, 2009 Astonishing picture. Not only the conception, that is in many cases it's the more interesting, but the whole set up is excellent. The choice of the boulders, the shape of bracelette, the light that creates contrast but no shades and the angle of 45-50 degrees that adds a 3D perspective.Best regards Link to comment
anna_purves 0 Posted October 19, 2009 I disagree with the other commentators. There are some significant problems here which have more to do with intent and art than with photographic technique. I think some of your other work worked better with human body vs rock. The first problem is the composition is static. IF you mean woman = adornment, Why just one figure? IF you mean something else -- it's not clear. Additionally, since the necklace is composed dead center, as in a jewelry storefront, then we would expect the pendant (the woman) to be in the foreground. Since she is not, we need to know, visually, why she is in the midground. Your background is working against you. -- neither the rocks or the woman seem visually connected with the ground, or really with each other. Since it is ground with pebbles and not, for example, cloth, this does beg the question of "why these subjects here?" This is what keeps the image from being successful. My suggestion is that for such a stylized image you need even more styling throughout the plane This would include not only stage composition, but try different angles and distances from subject. - An example of over-the-top stylization that works is Avedon's shot for Vogue of Model with Elephants. GerrySiegel 868 Posted October 20, 2009 I am not about to pull away from my first impression of ingenuity. Just add to it or strengthen the conceptual value. Maybe completing or filling in the foreground circle of stones, that is, tie the frontal parts together. Would have been my suggestion to make this impressive idea better. I can sometimes "see" the incomplete frontal parts like crab claws in a way. Much prefer the ring or bracelet idea. A passing thought. Does not diminish the imagination value for me anyway. Nor its stimulation to us for its inventiveness in creating something sculptural out of a two dimensional art. I could be wrong of course. Wonder if Tomas considered and rejected that circle business...bracelets do have open ends, some of them. Link to comment

tbu 0 Posted October 23, 2009 Very well thought out. Had to look at it several times , actually went back more than a few : ) Love it !! If it were in color it would be a whole other discussion all together. I truly thought this was a bracelett with a Shell in the middle of it. Wonderful Photo. ^5. Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted July 14, 2010 I like this series. It reminds me of the work of Ana Mendieta. Do you know about her? She was an earth sculptor from the 80s who used the figure. She was very original, though she did stuff which was so basic you would think it should have been done before. She was married to Carl Andre. When she fell out of the window of their Soho studio he was tried for and acquitted for her murder. She deserves more recognition than she got, and should be remembered. Your pictures are quite original and different, but with the same feel. Good stuff! Link to comment
christyturner 0 Posted January 14, 2013 I was just looking over the photos I added to my "Favorites." Seeing this again took my breathe away just like the first time I saw it. Love, love, love it. It really resonates. Thanks for posting. Link to comment
