mdc002 3 Posted October 3, 2009 I like the way the clouds draw the eye into the photo. Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted October 24, 2009 Great cloudscape, perfect for a radial composition. Simple, yet very powerful. My only nit is the blown out red channel. Link to comment
billkantor 0 Posted October 24, 2009 Hi Carsten, You are right. Guilty as charged. It was a hand held grab shot with the 5D MII that I took while setting up the 8 x 10. (Which I have not scanned but will get around to soon.) Nah, the red channel will probably be blown out there too. What would you have done about this? Two exposures? Bill Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted October 25, 2009 Bill, two exposures are a possible solution, but quite often you dont realize the problem, even the histogram is often misleading. You can fix the clipped channel by masking, see this tutorial on luminous-landscape BTW, how often do you miss a special cloudscape situation, changing while you are setting up your 8x10 ? billkantor 0 Posted October 26, 2009 Hi Carsten, Thanks for the tip. I suspect that shooting in RAW would help as well. This was shot in JPG with landscape saturation set at +3 or 4. I have to believe that that can push the colors off the chart. As for the luminous landscape article, I was intrigued and tried replicating their results on their sample. I think I am doing something wrong but I can see the potential of the technique. Thanks for the tip. Something new to learn! Cheers, Bill Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted October 26, 2009 If you tried this with a jpeg, forget it. 8 bits per channel doesnt provide enough room, use RAW - Cheers Carsten Link to comment
