hans11664883765 0 Posted September 26, 2009 I agree, good pose, nice model, but lacks sharpness. You were shooting with difficult light I think. I looked at some of the other pics of her in your portfolio and I think the one against the grey wall is the best. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 26, 2009 laura, I hope you don't get too mad at me or think I am just trying to be nasty, but I want to give you my honest opinion of your portrait. She is a little overly pierced for my taste, but still a very pretty girl with a very nice shape. Her skin tone is very good (there might be a tinge of yellow in her legs coming through). The background is much too light (upper right corner is burned out) and the window going into her head is distracting. I usually associate that much blur with a very romanticized mood that doesn't fit this photograph. She needs light in her eyes and catch lights to give her life. It could be the contrast is too high. You have lost detail in the darks and lights. Her hair blends right into the background. There really doesn't seem to be very good color saturation. I find her pose to be somewhat contrived and awkward. It doesn't look very natural and she doesn't seem very comfortable. I have no idea what her expression is saying to me? Please watch your cropping. There is too much wasted space on top and her feet are too close to the sides. I do like the repetition of the stripes in her hair with the straps on her shoes. Very interesting idea. Nice shot, Mark Link to comment
greg_kowalczewski 0 Posted September 27, 2009 I love the colours and composition of this image. I like the softness in the image and the blown out background. I think it adds to the overall effect. The stripes through the model’s hair blend with her shoe straps to create an interesting effect. A 5 x 4 crop (as opposed to your 6 x 4 crop) will bring the model forward. I think the image Hans Schrama is refers to is “Rika” (also good) – but I like this one better. Mark’s comment about the window being a distraction is something you need to watch out for. More often than not I would agree with this comment, but in this instance I like the way these two elements connect (and help define the shape of the model’s head). All said and done, this is my favourite image in your current portfolio. Each time I came back to look at it (trying to figure out whether I liked it or not) I liked it more. Link to comment
