Guest Guest Posted September 25, 2009 I liked the detail and the work that is must have taken so many artist to complete.. In our modern world we tend to mass produce so much... The artist of old took a different view of their work I think... Wanted to share a point of view... Any comment and opinions, they are always welcome ... Your friend on PN (MJ) Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted September 26, 2009 Thanks so much for your comments. I am indeed so impressed at the level of craftsmanship the artist care to show the detailed carvings and use of colored stones and marble to show the grandness of this building.. I try to imagine the building in its years of glory! Thanks for looking .. MJ Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 1 Posted September 26, 2009 I think those that lived so many years before us had their minds 'totally tuned into a different 'mind space'. They told stories with their artwork in all they built....much had to do with their 'focus of worship' I think. It drove their 'quest for works of art' that would please 'those on high' and in turn I think they felt they would be better protected-safer.......if their arcitecture was founded in worship and the desire to please a 'being greater than themselves'. Today, buildings are built quite often so stark and 'clean'..........alwasy simple lines.....which are fine in and of themselves - but there is not 'story telling in these buildings.......not sweat and tears that is mixed with the 'cement'. They are just buildings. And as the years pass........who will remember them??? Great shot and wonderful painting.....love the colors MJ.........sincerely, Gail Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 26, 2009 So, so true Gail.. The library was so critical to maintain the history of the Roman empire and they took great care to make the structure befitting the contents... I fully agree with you no sweat and tears means less passion... Thanks so much Gail... MJ Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted September 27, 2009 Thanks Tom actually only adjustment is in level and use the curves in light room to split tone and increase the saturation. So not much to develop this one. As soon as I can will drop u the raw shot unadjusted. Thanks MJ Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted September 28, 2009 Thanks so much Ilkka for your comments as always, I do look forward to the time when I am able to log on again to PN, as travel begings tomorrow and will be a while before I am able to jump back in a see my friends latest works... Happy Shooting... David, I have really started to enjoy the features in Lightroom the ability to really process your work from RAW and the amount of features you have like the ability to work with shadows and highlights in the curves are very helpful when trying to enhance the contrast of the shot... Thanks again and good luck in your lightroom ventrues... MJ Link to comment
whosecameraisforpix 0 Posted September 30, 2009 What a magnificent mix of detail and color. Truly the ones who came before us knew what it meant to create such labors of love - in stone. Very well captured and presented. Thanks for sharing. Rgds - Sekhar Link to comment
michaellinder 16,607 Posted October 12, 2009 The great libraries of Athens, Rome - and the greatest of all, Alexandria - were fashioned out of stone, but built on wisdom. The priority was to construct something that would survive the ages. The main threat to stone's survival is weathering, but wisdom is lost because people forget. In any case, this is a marvelous image. The color treatment is amazing. My compliments, michael Link to comment
s._lee_cashman 0 Posted January 4, 2010 Full-tilt saturation was the way to go here, I think. Very striking image. All the best. Link to comment
