art boughan 0 Posted September 12, 2009 I thought this was a unique image. At first glance, at the thumbnail, it looked like a ballerina was being attacked. After opening the full picture and reading your title, it told me my impression wasn't far off from your intention. The overall design and tone of the photo is what appeals to me. It reminds me a bit of the photographer Frantisek Drtikol, who was active in the early 20th Century in Czechoslovakia. It took a bit to recognize the cleaver in the background for what it was, not that that is a problem. For me it serves more as a device to break up the design. My only suggestion might be for vertical shots, submit a slightly smaller version; I couldn't fit the whole picture on my screen. Nice work. Link to comment
thistleandthat 1 Posted September 12, 2009 thanks! i appreciate your feedback. and i had not even thought about submitting a smaller size photo. thanks for that advice. i'll have to look up the Czech artist and see some of his work. Maybe i'll get more inspired! MKN Link to comment
clemsonguy 0 Posted September 19, 2009 Hi Melanie - I was looking through the rest of your portfolio and really am amazed at the eye you have for creating beautiful images of things we take for granted in everyday life. Some of them really make you stop and stare.Beautiful work. Since you asked for a critique on this one, I thought I'd give my two cents (but what do I know). Compared to your other work, I'm not in love with this one. I think it has to do with the "staged" nature of it and the red tone is throwing me off. Again, I am comparing it to your other work that really caught my eye (eg. The wagon and the red building to name just two). You have a talent. I look forward to seeing more. Link to comment
thistleandthat 1 Posted September 19, 2009 I'm with you on this one. Its not one of my favorites either because it didn't come out the way I wanted it to. It was more of a test with lighting in my house and it didn't come out right so I messed around with the colour and this is what came out. But I am going to play around with this one on Elements (that I just bought last week) to try to get what I was hoping for. Thanks for your opinion! MKN Link to comment
