"Fermat's Spiral"

cmouli

Sunflower closeup. I have been studying the pattern of florets in the head of sunflower - there has been much written about the fascinating mathematical model which is elegantly expressed in polar coordinates. It is a form of Fermat's Spiral - and is related to the golden ratio!
I have a rather sad story to tell about this particular flower. It was on the roadside on my way to work and I have been observing it grow bigger in size every day for past few weeks. Last weekend I spent several minutes enjoying and taking shots. The very next day it was gone - our city cleanup crew cleared the roadside shrubs! comments welcome..

Terrific shot. I can't beleive how sharp it is all through out. Almost F22 for this macro shot?

I would have never observed this apttern from mathematical perspective, so now it sounds very interesting.

Thanks Grigoriy & Lalit.

Lalit, yes - I had to use small apertures (f16) to get good DOF in this macro shot, and had to very patiently wait for a long time to let the gentle wind calm down for few seconds. Of course, I had a tripod, mirror lock and remote release - I remember you mentioning "for macro we are always at the mercy of nature - wind, light etc". thanks for your comments.
