Admiring Gaze- Castello Sforzesco Gallery, Milan

I was drawn to this scene by the lighting and the framing. After the fact I

became aware of the play of gazes between the subjects and ultimately

the photographer who pulls the scene together . I remember John

Berger's distinction between looking and seeing in "Ways of Seeing ."

which seems to be at play in this photo, as well as the construction of

gazes in Velasquez's Las Meninas .
