I'm not sure if the hair in her face adds to the image or is a

distraction. Would appreciate anyone's opinion along these lines.

Something about this picture makes me keep on coming back to it.

Thanks

Dan

Clemson,

She is a very pretty girl. You have focused very well on her eyes. Her expression is kind of sexy to me. She has very good eye contact with the camera (viewer). I like the way she has applied her make-up. Her eyeliner really helps make her eyes stand out.

It is a good thing she has good eye make-up because the catch lights in her eyes are very dim. She needs more life in her eyes. She may have quite a dark complexion, but her skin tone still seems a little dark to me.

The lighting is flat. I would like to see you use more shadows to help create the illusion of depth within your photograph. Her scarf is the lightest thing in the photograph and therefore draws my attention away from her face. The way it hangs down and goes out the photograph draws my eyes to it and down and out of the photograph.

The background is relatively plain, but it is so sharp that the texture really stands out. The horizontal crack (line) is also very annoying. The off-center pendant on her necklace really attracts attention -- not good attention.

Do not pose your subject straight on to the camera. This is not a very feminine pose. Showing your subject’s widest areas (shoulder to shoulder or hip to hip) makes those areas appear very large. Your subject will appear thinner, more feminine and more graceful if turned at an angle to the camera.

The compositional "rule" to balance the left and right sides of a portrait suggests to position the tip of the nose in the vertical center of the photograph. You should move her a little to her right.

I find the unruly hair blowing across her face not good. Perhaps (only perhaps) if it was not creating lines and circles all over her face it wouldn't be so bad. It is just too much. It might also be that nothing else is moving? I really don't know if it is windy or the poor girl just can't brush her hair very well. (Sorry, I couldn't resist -- it was suppose to be a bit of humor.)

Nice shot,

Mark

Can't stop looking at her eyes, sultry, sexy, great composition and tones. I love the contrast in textures. Scarf is a bit blown out. 6/6 Anon

I have to say Mark makes some very good points with which I agree although I don't mind the flat lighting as much. The scarf seems indeed blown-out on screen. If so, that's not something you can afford to happen, especially with such lighting. As for the hair I too think there's way too much of it in her face.

I vote with the no hair crowd. And yes I got pulled down to the drifting pendant ( boy that was some strong wind....) I think the pure white shawl competes with her lovely face because it is the highest highlight. A mid tone scarf would have been better I am quite sure... Nice face...so so background in this case for the kind of makeup and glitter on the model. Better if it were farther back and less in focus ,I kind of feel, because it is not an interesting wall to give the contrast you wanted..She is quite an exotic young lady you have here....
