mariano_garcia_valino 0 Posted March 2, 2001 I snapped this one with the last remainings of light. I tried Ansel's advice of shooting for the shadows and developing for the highlights (although "development" in this case is referred to the digital equivalence, since it is a digital camera). The original result (as expected) was horribly overexposed, and then I pulled the curves, somewhat equivalent to an N-2 or N-3 at Zone IX, maybe. I would appreciate your usual thoughful impressions. Thank you for support as always. Mariano Technical details follow. dd-b 0 Posted March 2, 2001 And I like the way the street tones work, in particular. But overall it looks flat. I'm not fond of the chimney on the front house running out of frame, either. Link to comment
dan_dubois 0 Posted March 3, 2001 Very interesting composition. The house that is closest looks very nice and it has a good range of values. The rest of the picture looks a little flat. I think you would have a real winner if you could up the contrast in the other buildings. Link to comment
kristen_popp 0 Posted March 3, 2001 Like the picture but might clean up the stray line top middle/left Link to comment
mriy 0 Posted March 4, 2001 I read the preceeding comments and I'm not sure I agree. My first impression was that the "flatness" may have been intentional given the nice tones in the front house and the fence. It has sort of a solar eclipse kind of appearance which is kind of cool. The long shadow on the street really makes the picture, I think. Agree with that annoying line up top, and including the chimney may have been a plus. I like this photo quite a bit Link to comment
mariano_garcia_valino 0 Posted March 10, 2001 I really appreciate your taking the time to comment, all of you. The flatness of the back buildings is far from intentional (I would not know how to do it intentionally :-)!) but I will try your suggestions. I agree it might have been better with a red filter, but I do not have one and I am finding it difficult to find one for my coolpix (damn 28mm thread!). Also agree on the chimenee (I did not see that when I was shooting the pix). Anyway, thanks to you all again, this is really helpful! Link to comment
