angular 0 Posted January 9, 2003 I made this attempt in 1995, pulling the film (T-max100) at its extremes. Rated @ 25 ASA and underdeveloping... not a hard process but something that can be done easely with a good digital camera. The result in this case is a virtually grainless negative with very high contrast,(the subject ligthing is important) and extreme resolution. I scanned the B&W copy and toned in PS. Any comments welcome. Link to comment
theblindphotographer 0 Posted January 10, 2003 Roberts, p.K. and Kidd have said it all--7's. Link to comment
wilfred_kwok 0 Posted January 10, 2003 Stunning photo. It would be a master piece if the eyes are more illuminated and the shadow off the face are taken care of. Link to comment
eileen_molony 0 Posted January 10, 2003 Interesting shot and concept, holds interest, and I like you chioce of colors keeping it almost B&W. I also like that one eye is a black whole while one is staring at us, lead to real/unreal question. Well shot. Link to comment
penforhire 0 Posted January 10, 2003 You're too modest, calling this an "attempt." I call it stunning and original. I do not agree with the desire to light up the eyes. This is more mysterious but still retains representational power. It may mean different things to different viewers but it HAS meaning. I appreciate your sharing the specific technique. I think it broadens our possibilities to see such good creativity and hear how it was done. Link to comment
angular 0 Posted January 10, 2003 Well, i called it an "attempt" because it was the first time i tried such technique. I was surprised with the results! For the makeup, i used mud and an old carpet turned downside and scratched. Thank you all! Link to comment

will_wilson 0 Posted January 12, 2003 I love the image, but your explanation of developing seems odd. Overexposure and Underdeveloping reduces contrast. The lighting must have been quite extreme. Link to comment
mg 0 Posted January 13, 2003 Impressive imagination ! :-) Just 2 regrets as far as aesthetics are concerned... 1) On the left of the face, at the edge, the junction between face and background feels a bit pasted. 2) Then I certainly believe that this was framed a bit tight - abit too close to the arms at the bottom and to the head at the top. Regards. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 13, 2004 The one to catch your eye immediately. I do have to agree that the cropping is way too tight at the head. Im amazed at how well this turned out myself. I thought he was submerged in some kind of muddied water. I love what you did with the carpet. The right hand is a little too clean if we are going to title this carbon 14. I think if you repeat this experiment and place the model in a tub half-full of water and pour some type of floating sludge film, this will come up a lot better. How about if he opened his mouth?
