I like this, especially since that looks like a beagle and I have one, but I don't really care for just he ball being in color.

Well composed shot, to be picky i would have preffered a tighter crop, (bottom and little at the top), im not shure the colored ball fits to well. If you dont mind i upload a suggestion, cropped only at the bottom. Regards!

Atle, Thanks for your critique. I am taking a photography class, and am slowly learning composition as well as many other things.

Kind regards, AJ

I like this shot a lot. Maybe some fill flash would lighten the face depending on how far away you were. IMO the open cropping is fine - room to roam !

Actually, I really like the ball being in color. It makes me think of the dog's world, and how in that moment, the ball is the only thing of importance. It's all about the ball for the dog!

I like the exposure. Good contrast.

I also agree with the previous comments that the crop could be a little tighter and a flash would definately help get some character into the dog's eyes so they aren't so flat. Animal eyes without any sparkle can look dead, flat or scary.

Another idea for this shot would be a little longer exposure to get some motion blur on the dog's tail wagging. It would be hard to do, but occasionally the dog stands still for a moment while the tail keeps wagging.

Perfect analysis! His world is that tennis ball and trust me, he loves life. I live in Cincinnati and it is is a little cold right now. Next summer I will take your advice and see if I can recapture this shot with more fill light and try a litte longer shutter speed. Thanks for all the great feedback.

I really like this photo! I also agree with your choice to leave only the ball with color. It does give you the feeling that the ball is what is important to the dog, but it doesn't take the focus away from the dog either. I like the cropping, as well.
