iancoxleigh 0 Posted July 24, 2009 Nice! Blue on blue on blue on blue on blue. This is an exceptional scene and I love the presentation with the washed out sky and low contrast exposure supporting the mood created with all the worn out and dated/peeling elements. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted July 25, 2009 Head over heels for this one. I love everything about it from the mood, the pucker on the tail end of the car, the leaning tree, and all that blue. Whitewashing the scene is a good choice here. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted July 26, 2009 Did you invite the blue sky ( well a hint of blue at least) to the blue scene? It is so well observed, the soft blues all around, but it still looks as a neighborhood that needs a caring hand. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted July 26, 2009 Ian; I simply could not resist the colour theme. I'm glad you like the treatment, I tried this several ways and lowering the contrast and desaturated the blue looked best to me. Drew; Thanks for the support and for dropping by. Jeff; Thanks for sharing your thoughts particularly regarding the processing. I wanted to convey the strange time warp this place left me feeling, more like I was walking through a memory than through a place. Pnina; The entire area seemed in need of a caring hand. Despite the ramshackle appearance of the town, a certain frontier charm shone through to redeem the place. Link to comment
danbliss 0 Posted July 27, 2009 It is a very interesting image and composition. I feel like is says a lot, but I am not quite sure what. In any case, it is very cool. Nicely done. Dan Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted July 27, 2009 I think I know what you mean. Sometimes I can hear an image whispering in my ear despite not being able to decipher what it is telling me. Link to comment
LindaM 2 Posted July 27, 2009 or maybe walking through a dream of a memory? you know how in dreams a place is someplace you have been only everything is different? that is what this makes me feel. like the others i applaud your choice to lower the saturation. brilliant work Gordon! Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted July 27, 2009 " a dream of a memory " I love that concept, like being twice removed from the actuality. This degree of detachment describes very well both my feeling about this photo and my overall sense of the town. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am thrilled to know that some of what I tried to infuse this photo with, comes across to you. Link to comment
lizweisiger 0 Posted August 2, 2009 Gord: Cottage for rent; cheap, neat, bring your own fly swatter. I'm sure I've stayed there. And I even owned a Buick Skylark for awhile. But mine had plates. Wonderful image. Link to comment
drewmurphy 0 Posted November 2, 2009 I really like these kinds of shots, a sort of slice of reality, a sense of the people that occupy this space and their lives, but viewed in passing, as if from a moving car or bus on a long journey. The car really helps that along for me as does your presentation. Nice one. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted November 5, 2009 Liz; This was taken in Churchill Manitoba in the arctic. There are only a few miles of roads around the town and it is 800 Km. to the nearest highway so plates are not a big concern :-) Drew; Thanks, I too am fond of the slice of life school of photography. There are so many scenes of ordinary oddity just waiting for you and I and our cameras to stroll by. Link to comment
