amirali 1 Posted July 14, 2009 I think you need to reduce the flash compensation a little but, you can also use and external flash to have some side lighting and keeping some good shadows. Link to comment
stevenseelig 5 Posted July 15, 2009 Thanks Amir, A couple of things. One, the flash was on a SB800 shooting through an Ilumna softbox about 4-6 feet to my left and about even with the camera, set to TTL -2EV controlled by my silent master on my camera. The softbox was highly feathered upward to reduce the visible flash on the wall in front of them. Post production, I actually did a selective increase in exposure of the people because I felt their image was a bit flat. I have attached the original image below for comparison. Now that you have seen the two images, I wonder what your thoughts are? And thanks for spending the time to comment. Steven Link to comment
amirali 1 Posted July 15, 2009 You are very welcome, I think the original photo is really good. it only needs a little bit more of fixing the colors. I don't know I am usually a fan of dim photos and I rarely like the photos with a high luminosity. It all depends now on your personal preference of colors. I think the light is good in the original one. Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted July 16, 2009 Steven-- I do think you lost a little of the organic sense which was in the original. They feel a little too oddly lit in your workup, a little like they don't quite belong to the scene itself. Like you, I would up the levels of the original for a little more light and life, but I'd ease up on bringing them out too strongly from the environment, so that the light on them maintains a consistency with the time of day and the overall environment. I imagine they're pleased with the shot. Link to comment
rome 0 Posted July 18, 2009 i agree with AmirAli and more with Fred. there is a sense of calmness within the original that i like more. the intensity of the light on the people in the post processing one, makes the light feel a bit to artificial. anyway: congratulations to both of them. i never witness a proposal before and never seen one in a photo. props to the guy or who had the idea of capturing the big moment on camera. you should be proud of the moment too.
