aarkp 2 Posted July 14, 2009 a beautiful image that would have meant nothing without the hiker... Link to comment

wieslawmamon 0 Posted July 17, 2009 thank you very much. Rajat, yes, absolutely agree, without the hiker there would be something missing here. Flavio, welcome, glad you like this b&w conversion, I think the play of light and shadows in this very contrast lighting helped a lot to get such intensity here. Best regards to you. Link to comment
aarkp 2 Posted July 17, 2009 i have made my own satisfying interpretation of this image... man is a very small thing before nature's vast complexities... man seeks his path through the entanglements (of the world) and surely finds his way through the forest into the open glade... hike he must... choices he must make... his experience and his wisdom guide him on his way... sometimes he takes a wrong turn, and corrects himself as he gets his bearings... ... wieslawmamon 0 Posted July 18, 2009 really appreciate you've taken the time to interpret this shot, glad this landscape says also something about life:-}. A big thank you my friend. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted July 18, 2009 The vantage point of the secret onlooker, hidden behind a screen of leaves. We contemplate the passage of a single hiker. He continues down the trail and then is gone and we are alone again. Link to comment
andrea-de-bonis 6 Posted July 23, 2009 at a first wiew, i thought that this photo was worked with high contrast to have thise effects of depth, and also this order in the confusion. but, enlarging, i see there are not high contrast, but, as always, a great traitment of the light. wieslaw, not to stole a secret, but you misured exp. on the person? wieslawmamon 0 Posted July 23, 2009 thank you for your comment and your question. There's no secret at all, I'm happy I can share the details you asked me. I'd prepared the settings on my camera before the hiker appeared taking one or two shots for this composition and then checking the histogram so that to record all the tone range. As I remember, in manual mode the camera showed underexposure -0,5 but honestly speaking I wouldn't bet my life on it. When the hiker came into the frame, I locked focus on him (I usually set my focus mode on AF-single), recomposed and shot. Later I strenghtened the contrast in gimp using mainly the curves. Hope my explanations are satisfying for you, if not, please don't hesitate to ask more, as far as I know the answer I'll always give it. Best regards. Link to comment

andrea-de-bonis 6 Posted July 25, 2009 wieslaw, your explainetions are complete, thanks.. so complete that yesterday i tried to do as you do, i mean prepare the shot having a look to the histogram.... well, monday i will post the photo. my problem is that, after have seen the histogram, i didnt know what to do.. so, i just gave this look at it. but close to me there was a tourist, with a big canon, and she was very admired for all this.... so, it worked well. ciao! wieslawmamon 0 Posted July 27, 2009 I find histogram a very useful and, what's important, quick and easy tool to check exposure. It's objective and helps to set the camera so that it records all the details. Having such 'correct' exposure is imho a good starting point to further adjustments in an editing program. Hope you enjoy your experiments and I don't have any doubts the results will be interesting. Looking forward to seeing them, ciao. Link to comment
andrea-de-bonis 6 Posted July 29, 2009 ok wieslaw, now i understand. of course you use matrix and manual.... you know, i never used matrix. normally, when there is time, i explore the wiewfinder's area with spot exp. and aperture priority, to see the differents light's condition, then i choose where to expose. your way seems to be easier (mine is more funny...). i will try. ciao, grazie Link to comment
wieslawmamon 0 Posted August 1, 2009 it is very easy and gives me more or less what I want, after all the kind of style isn't so important, much more concern is the best possible result and to achieve it everyone looks for their own way. Thank you for divulging the details of your style and for this discussion. Grazie! Link to comment
mikulski 0 Posted August 3, 2009 I think that the hiker's mind was a little bit 'entangled' so he decided to begin his journey in order to clear his thoughts.I like the mood of this image. Very nicely done. Pozdrawiam :) Link to comment
