First time at the beach

rdickinson

I posted this photo about 6 months ago, but only got 2 ratings (one of which was a "1") I'm hoping for a better showing this time

Hi Ron, I'm just a novice, but I would suggest that you crop the top bit of the photo (the rocks) out of the piccie, they are a little distracting. I would also tend to crop a bit off the right of the picture so that the child is slightly right of centre.

I considered cropping the rocks, but I kinda like the color in the background. I really do appreciate you taking the time to analyze it though!

Ron, I don't think that you should be overly perturbed by any comments regarding the little kid being too close to the centre of this image. However, despite you saying that you like the colour of the rocks, I find them a little distracting. I certainly wouldn't crop them out, though, because they add depth to this composition. Very much appreciate that we all view photos differently... I actually like this in B&W!

I really appreciate all of the suggestions, Peter I hope you're not under the impression that I was angry or being sarcastic in my reply to Joanne, I appreciate someone taking the time to analyze a photo and make suggestions, it can only make me a better photographer.

No not at all! On the contrary, I think Joanne is rather "brave" to leave her comment on your image, especially after 'qualifying' herself as "just a novice". When we write (honest) comments, we have no idea how the respective photographer is going to react... My statement about not being overly perturbed was directed at two previous comments, which pointed out that the kid was too close to the middle (in their view). A fair enough observation, but like I said, we all have (fortunately?) different tastes and ways of looking at images. Sorry for any confusion with my comment, I have been dealing with/reading about too many negative things that go on at photo.net lately... Glad you appreciate all feedback! Cheers,

a critique is just a personal opinion...whilst a novice probably can't give 'technical' input to a critique...everyone has an opinion...and everyone knows what they like...I'm just not afraid to say it *grin*

I'm thick skinned...if I wasn't I'd never put any photo of my up on photo.net!!!

btw...I haven't taken offence to any remarks you guys have said...even if it was said behind my back *tongue in cheek*

I like this piccie, and I don't mind the b&w version either
