Arizona: Lake Havasu City: 12.21.02: male Gambels Quail

fred_j._lord

This small fellow loved to sit on a stack of kindling as it gave him a good view of the surroundings. His curiousity drew him out for this image. This was handheld and taken a few minutes after the first image I put up of the Quail.

Fred, are you home yet? You could have been home from judging the number of postings you have. Hope you have a nice holiday and enjoy the warm weather. Talking about weather, we started having snow since yesterday and have accumlation over 10" by now. Luckily temperature is still up around -10 deg C. It would be nice to have snow a few days earlier for a white Xmas instead of brown.

From viewing your comments, I have come up an idea. How about we start posting some 'bad' images amd tell others why and how we made that mistakes? We can always learn from the 'bad' images or other's mistakes, as much as if not more from other's good images. I don't know about you, but I have tones of 'bad' ones .

We arrived back in Denver Friday evening and came to our Frisco home Saturday morning. The online connection in Frisco is, at best, twitchy since Earthlink switched to Sprint phone lines here. Sometimes the magic works, sometimes it doesn't.

We're expecting snow tomorrow but who knows what may happen.

I would put the question of posting "bad" images on the forum for comment if you haven't already. It's fine with me.

I prefer this shot to the other posted quail as we are looking up at the bird (a different perspective for us) rather than down at the bird (the usual perspective). Both shots are tack sharp and properly exposed.

Fred, Looks like whatever you were doing was of great interest to that bird. Shaking a pear tree, perhaps? Oh, wait, that would be for a partridge.

You're getting right handy with that lens. How many usable shots did you get of these critters?

Out of perhaps twenty-five frames there were six that I consider possibles along with one of a House Finch and a couple of Mourning Doves. I will be posting them all in my birds portfolio shortly.

I need to do more bird shots. This is really good and I like it a lot. Only one problem: I havn't seen any birds perched on top of any windmills. I will keep looking. great shot, Fred

Nothing much new to say; just trying to catch up with all the good pics I missed.

Abolutely stunning warm colours, for a perfectly crisp result. Composition right on!

Cheers, Alex
