This is such a tour-de-force in composition. The line of the hook holds this image together, and the tones are wonderfully nostalgic, like something from a 1970s album. Nice work again.

Full of life and as many times , a sense of humour attached to composition. The "layers" /steps on the L side ballanced beautifully with that hooked fish, (and the boy's behind....;-))

 

For my taste I would have liked the composition a bit more contrasted. Very nice scene.

Thanks for the comments. I think this picture has a lot of promise composition-wise but the tones are very difficult for me to balance since the bright whites and the shadows are in such proximity. I may work on this some more to see if I can come up with something more to my liking. For me it's always the same thing - tone, tone, tone.

Jack, very good composition, exposure and tone.

Jack: I agree with you on all counts. The composition is worth the work and the version above does not handle the dynamic range of tones as well as it might. (That's not a fish, right? Something else? It seems to be attached to the bridge.)

 

The diagonal of humans, all looking down but all looking down in individual ways, is the real frame of this image. I especially love the soul at the bottom right, busy creating his/her own water vortex.

 

Any raw converter (assuming you shot raw) should allow you to compress the range for better tonality. As a test, I downloaded and gave it a run through Camera Raw and had no trouble with the range.

Patricia - Unfortunately, I didn't shoot this in RAW but as a jpeg image ( I didn't have a big enough memory card for the trip so I tried to squeeze in more shots). I'd really like to see what you achieved running it through camera raw since you are an acknowledged master of tonal values. If you have a chance, would you post your version so I could see what the possibilities are?
