Jaws of Ice

stevesieren

Here is another shot from Minaret Lake in the Ansel Adams Wilderness. Left a film camera out here all night long just for fun and picked it up off of the icy slope around 4am. The tripod was wedged into the ice pretty well. Not a cloud in the sky this morning but it didn't bother me much at all. Light and shadow is all you really need in a place like this right? About 90 percent of the time I've spent backpackpacking the Sierra there hasn't been a single cloud out at sunrise, when it does happen your lucky.

I was really trying to get the color down right here mostly the blues in

the lake. Any suggestions or thoughts on color management

throughout the scene would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Steve, first of all, fantastic photo! Since this photo was late May, it really must have been early when you shot this! I'm impressed with your dedication even if you claim it was "just for fun". I hope you got back to sleep rather than spent the rest of the day trying to stay awake. Secondly, I will never understand the numerical ratings. None of the low ratings has a name with it. Perhaps they marked you down because you used Ansel Adams's name? The shaded mountainside is very shaded, but it is not underexposed. And your processing of the image is amazing, sharp and clear. Even the title is good.

Beautiful harmony of colors. It has fire and ice!!! A reflection in a water gives something what really catch the eye. Then colors become suddenly colder and colder. The dark blue water contrasts nicely with ice on the bottom, and this ice completes warm tones on the rocks. This is truly amazing shot. I love it!!. Regards.
