"A lifetime of hair-dye and broken dreams"

ben_owen_browne

While the symmetry of the furniture, the perfect placement of the teapot, the poster and the flipflops, and the incredible linear poise of the woman all look like something out of a feature for an interior design magazine - "Peelingwallpaper" perhaps - this is pretty much a street photo, taken in about 40 seconds (with the clock starting from the moment when I spotted her sitting in the halflight of what was actually an unused shop, reaching its midway point when I stepped inside, tilted my camera slightly upwards from its resting place at my chest and looked her in the eye - which is the most effective way I know of getting permission without words or fuss - and finishing up when I, crouched on the floor with my back against the wall (and with a little prayer to the makers of the Canon P mode on my lips), quickly pressed the trigger. But tell me: do you think it was 40 seconds well spent..?

Jesus Ben...this is great...all the way from the subtile colors, to the halo's above each chair where the little angels heads rubbed...I believe you need more density on the left (window?) side and less density on the couch area...they gotta feature you in picture of the week...cheers buddy...jim

This picture looks genuine and unadulterated to my overcritical eye. Technique is good enough that everywhere the eye travels, it sees what the photographer saw, without wanting for clarity, detail, etc. Excellent work and well done for seeing so much in so little time. I'm slightly curious as to what else is off to the right of the photo, but enough subject is visible that it doesn't detract from the impact of the whole image.

A picture is worth a thousand words, they say, but I reckon a few choice words from you guys about my picture is worth more than anything. Thank you thank you thank you.

First comes message than aesthetics - brilliant. Thank you very much for not giving it too much subsequent saturation.

Incredibly spontaneous scene. Anyone who has spent any time in the far east is immediately transported back before even reading about the photo. All the pro's have had their say, this one, for what it's worth, is from a beginner: A classic spontaneous find, well-done!

This is a great photo. It truly tells a story. I think this would be a great P.O.W. You definetly have great talent as a photographer. Well done!

The color through out the phtograph is so serene. The lighting gives the picture a 3 D effect. Objects and the human subject seems to protrude from the blue surface
