Ascention Chamber

I don´t understand why anybody did rate or comment this pic. It looks like an old painting, lighting and tones are so soft and moody... beautiful!

I agree with Anna, this picture deserves a lot more. excellent grain and tone. reload!!

Excellent composition and implementation by all means, but with the massive character and the "conveyor belt" style of PN it's almost impossible for any non-mainstream photo to get any attention if not by chanche. Luckily, Jacques Henri dug it out for me. Thanks.

Very good photo. Thanks Henry, for showing me. The pic is very untypical for PN (luckily) and therefore viewed by too few people...

 

There is a thing I feel not completely comfortable with: the crop. I'd like to hear some other opinions:

- is the right opening in the roof distracting? (cover it with your finger and you'll see.)

- are the openings to closely cropped?

 

Would be nice to get some answers :-)

I just read Jacques' comment on this picture in the brouhaha thread concerning the Photo of the Week and agree to a certain extent. It is a great picture and I think the reason that more people haven't commented on it thus far is because it doesn't jump out at you. I'm not an expert on aesthetics, but simply covering the right-hand portal does seem to focus my attention more on the figure.

I gave it a 7/7, because imho it's excellent and outstanding. Birgit made 2 suggestions and, yes, she's right.With only one opening (on the left) and not such a strong cropping on the top - the next POW!!

This is fantastic a 7 rating for sure
