Do you think a barn works as a good subject?

How do you feel about the B&W, should I have shot this in color?

(Note: Shot on cheapo Kodak 400CN B&W C-41 process)

And...how about the composition? Did I include too much of the ground

in front?

Keith, Hello, I enjoyed your barn landscape photo. I enjoy the B&W , but a color image would also be beautiful. I do not do much B&W but I like this photo. Very nice portfolio you have also. Take care.

I think the answer to your question depends on how much color was in the original photo. If that was a striking red barn, maybe with a green roof, and/or if there was attractive color in the sky, then color would be a significant element and perhaps should be retained. In your B&W version, I'd like to see more tonal contrast -- it seems a little flat as is. Finally, I don't find the foreground especially attractive, and therefore I think there's probably too much of it; I'd be looking for a different composition (either more sky or a tighter framing).

I like the crib & it's shadow falling on the barn, it almost compliments the mountains in the back . I think the foreground is OK . It doesn't have to be "interesting" to make it a part of the scene. I think it flows pretty well. Maybe a little more contrast.

Thank you for the advice guys.

I do agree about the contrast. I have been playing with the image to try and get more contrast, but have not gotten any results I like so far.

I may have to rescan the image with the exposure bumped up a little more. Once I get an opportunity to do this, I'll post my results.

Thanks again!

-Keith
