These busy workers were moving so fast it was a challenge to hold the

camera still enough to get a very sharp shot...but thought I'd give it a

try....comments and advice welcome...with thanks,Gail

Like this one better Gail. The little worker is better placed in the frame. By the way the, this frame works well.

Nice composition. I really like the detail in the ant ,would like to have seen the antennas sharp but I know how difficult a shot like this is. Wonderful color. Regards

Much appreciation for your comments..I imagine to get this really sharp you'd have to use a tripod..but I was doing my best to 'catch' one of these ants 'handheld'..they move so fast...one day I'll get some better images, but it is still nice to 'try'...and as the saying goes..'no harm in trying'..talk again soon, Gail

A very tough situation and you have executed it with perfection my dear friend, the white spots are like he has just finished painting his house :)

great one, congrats.

nevery though about the spots that way....odd, I never knew ants collected Pollen..but I saw 2 of them..meet face on and rub their front legs together...like they were transferring Pollen...or cleaning it off....but they did keep going inside the flower, so getting covered in Pollen would be enevitable. Tnks for your kind Critique....later...Gail

This is a very interesting shot and the color work and detail are really nice to behold... Again, I find myself taken a back by your work and as always appreciate you long detailed answers to my questions or comment.. You asked about weather in Indonesia , we have basically two seasons hot with rain and hot without rain. It is a unique place to live and I have been here for five plus years prior to that I lived in Japan... I suspect to move to Singapore soon only about a hour away from Jakarta by plane... I like asia as it has been my home for more than 10 years I find it hard to go back to the states as it is fast paced there and always busy... So it is a lot more to my nature to keep it simple and I like to pace and ease of life. In photography for me it was a support for my painting more then the art of photography but I do a lot of wedding work and ad work here so it helps to pay the bills. I hope to devote my entire time soon to photography in fine art work and documentation of local tribes and cultures. I again need to continue to keep active with my pay work which I do not post as it is not respectful to my clients to use the work they pay for to post on a personal site. I do not post a lot of work only things I had time to play with and try to get a feel for what the community thinks... I always strive to get honest opinions and I can usually count of you for as you will say hey Mike no 7's this time hahaha... But I do get frustrated at times when I see a 3 when I know the work is better than a mid average but again it is all a matter of taste and yes net working the site... It is sad to say that but we are trying to get exposure of our work aren't we if not why are we posting on the site...

Well I have dumped a lot of data on you hope not to much ... Again your work has a creative feel about it and fun images and you can see great care has been take to advance your design and style thanks again for sharing your mate in Indonesia MJ

Thanks again for taking the time to comment. This photo was a 'struggle' - I think I hit the 'heating pad' for my back for a good hour after spending time with these tiny creatures....no lack of 'work ethic' here. They certainly have a 'one track mind' and endeavour to get the job done....however...it was a case where a tripod would not have worked and holding my camera was only choice. There is room for improvment here.....(much)...but I am willing to get out there and take what I can regardless. I think it is the 'challenge' of actually getting one (a whole one) in excellent focus. Some of the 'insect shots' on this site 'boggle my mind'...however equipment makes a big difference.

Picked up a UK Digital Photo Mag yesteday that I had time to peruse(that gave me some great info) while a 'freak' storm 'touched down' around 6ish. I live in a spot along Lake Ontario, where the lake effect produces some pretty strange wheather. Today the wind was not just coming in one direction....it was 'swirling all around us'....the thunder was continual....no breaks in it for lightening.....Hail....just Freaky. Of course I need a new Battery Back up....and it hit us all of a sudden....power went out and my screen went a color I've never seen before. Was not sure if I"d get things 'back' to normal at all.

I can understand your 'need' to keep things simple....the mind and body both get accustomed to the 'rythm of life'..........our 'inner clockes 'tick' to it's melody and if we vere off track too much .............havock is bound to ensue. Change of scenery is always nice, but for the major bulk of your time when you are working - a sense of harmony helps. That's why I'm up so late, so often. I am a 'night - hawk'.....but I love being totally alone when I'm editing...no unwelcome external 'data' interupting my train of thought. I'm kind of at a 'learning curve' right now....just use Elements 7, and althought it is a pared down version of CS....there are some things I have to translate into Elements when I attempt them.....layers is a biggy right now....and I want to master 'type' especially in resizing...without 'pixelating.......

This Forum for showing our Photos....is an excellent 'tool' but I also feel, at least for me...I have to keep in mind those who are rating....are all affected by external inputs...(good days - bad days- wretched camera days---PHOTO BLOCK--life in general)....it's kind of like when you 'utter an opinion....I feel we must be responsible for what we say, and be willing to allow the other person to 'respond'.........in his or hers own manner....and it will be affected by all the same things I mentioned above....but I'm 'putting those words' out there...and I must respect their response--Good or Bad...but that does not mean I have to 'feel crushed by their response. They too are 'being tossed about by life' and hey...they are only human...just like you and I.

As far as 3's go..........sure there will be those who for whatever satisfaction they get out of it....will rate that way. Have you not noticed 'how many times an image is 'viewed' and how 'few' take the time to rate...I realize the outside public view our photos also...but it totally amazes me when I see the vast number of times a photo is viewed, and how often a comment or rating is posted. I think PN is a Forum for sharing, learning from each other....but there comes a time when you have to feel 'inside' that your 'work' was a 'good effort' no matter what any one says.....and if you get good ratings from those you've become to 'trust', then that is just a BONUS....and those who wish to 'hide' and post 3's......."DO THEY REALLY MATTER???".........I had a dilema a while back that truly 'cut deep'.....although I want to 'learn' from others.......I can't help myself...I have my own 'style' and their comments may help me adapt...but I cannot let myself ge consumed with 'worry' over pleasing others.

For in truth I never will, truly please all the people all of the time.(sounds familiar).....Post your Photos...view others Portfolios and 'gleen' what you can from them....enjoy the comraderie of others...You have your 'Business' to run...first and foremost...but I think this is a very essential 'part' of your life...it is not work...it is where your Creative mind had a chance to 'go to far places'.........without a 'deadline'....you are 'free' here..........there is no competition...no 'deadlines'..........it can be a 'haven of 'Creativity'..............the 'pause that refreshes'..........and you need it. Talk 'atcha !later!..........G
