heider 0 Posted June 11, 2009 Why I think this is a very good photo: 1- The colors and tones are great: the golden - orangery colors against the extra dark colors gives this photo a richness that is only found in art ( Rembrandt for example extensively used these colors. ) 2- Urban Decay as a subject is very difficult and requires a photographer with complex and sensitive taste, only the trained eyes can see the beauty of these places, its not a conventional subject, thats why i think this is a very original photo. 3- The post processing technique here is very mature, first we see the perfect local contrast levels that boost the details, then there is the added HDRI feeling which is very suitable, also a smart and moderate vignetting and bulr effect is nicely applied at the edges which helps focusing out attention. 4- When a photo has an effective mood and atmosphere then its a good photo, here you cant help but react to the mood of this photo. The photographer knew how to capture the mood. 5- the subject is not conventional and not many would see this as "nice", capturing the aesthetics of this old, dusty jagged space is not every photographers ability, it requires even some personal character to see this beauty. What is missing here IMHO: the only thing missing here is an anchor point, an object that would tie everything together , like a red chair maybe! a female model would be less effective to me but would work as well a dining table with some candles, dishes and chairs would make this total surreal and would change the subject but also but would be a great idea as well. But like the photographer, i am more in favor of adding nothing to the setup. Sometimes intensifying what we see is better than changing it. This is a really good photo that comes from a well experienced photographer with a great eye, a unique vision, and complex aesthetics view. Very well done indeed. Regards Link to comment

lesliejbng 0 Posted June 11, 2009 Wonderful work here. The tones are amazing. I like the lighting also and the out of focus areas at top and bottom add to the overall effect. The one beam on the floor carries your eye right into the image. Excellent work as always Art! Warm regards, Leslie Link to comment
Art X Photography 1 Posted June 11, 2009 Thank you all for your words and ratings, I appreciate them all. Hayder, thank you for your thoughts, I appreciate the depth with which you have viewed this image and the effort taken to write those thoughts. I see your point in much of what you say about it missing an 'anchor point'. This image was taken in an old abandon house in the middle of no where ready to collapse. Unfortunately there were no 'props' available to create an anchor point. As you have so well said, intensifying what was present rather than changing it is exactly why I decided to eventually post this image. thanks again. Link to comment

don_lally 0 Posted June 13, 2009 Great effect you used here. I agree with Hayder next time you go out here you should take something thats brand new to juxtapose the deteriorating house. This would be a great place too shoot models also. Link to comment
