I I have been undecided about this image. I see something valid in it,

but somehow often I end up considering it a close miss. What do you

think? Is it working for you, and if not, where is the culprit? Thanks! L.

one could say it's a dark commentary (if not cynical) on contemporary society. People all locked into their own virtual world without any social interaction makes for a gloomy comment all the more emphasized by that highlighted little girl in the red who doesn't seem to have any interest in the outside world that you subtle hint at made even stronger by her posture. It's a social documentary and if you think about it a deeply troubling one.

Ton has expressed well the sentiments that this stark and stunning photograph evokes. Considering the difficult lighting of the scene before me the clarity and balance in the photograph are noteworthy.

Great moment of modern life: IT communication of kids. Its a "historical" shot for the future. Well done. BR Joerg

Thank you all for the nice comments, which actually go beyond what I expected. As said, I'm not totally happy about this photo. In HCB words, I think it has taken a "decisive moment", but is lacking in realization and/or postproduction for me, so that it somewhat misses. Not that I can put my finger on where the problem actually is.

On the other hand, quite some people seem to like it (also from the ratings, which are high for my standards), so perhaps is "just me". I find it always quite interesting when my opinions on one of my images do not correspond to the feedback. Of course, it is interesting only if the feedback is better. If it is worse it is just that the world cannot understand my greatness because I'm too ahead of my times ;-).

Ton et al.: cynical. Oh yes it is cynical. I often feel that some half-serious cynicism can be useful, because it tends to activate an immune reaction, so to say. In fact, my view of the children of our times is much less gloomy than this image would let you think. When I was her age, I was probably like that in front of the TV for one hour or so per day. Now I don't even own a TV, and when I am at my parents place and I watch it, I get tired of it pretty quickly.

Thanks again! L.
