Fascinating image. It is much better larger. Wonderfully interesting detail. I am also curious. what is at the other end of the pole? He has a unique face.

Hi, Tammy! Thank you, I love getting a "Cool" rating. I count that as one of the best. I'm also glad you like it. Yes, this is one aspect of smoothing wet concrete. This technique brings the "creme" of the cement mixture to the top and settles the aggregate (rocks) below the surface while leveling out the ridges and depressions in the wet concrete. It looks easy in photos but the operator has to avoid electrical lines, obstacles, and workers while producing consistant results with each pass. This was a 30 foot pole and only about a small amount of the total that was poured so he was tired by the end of this job. ~Sky

Margaret, how have you been? I'm glad you like this and viewed it large. There were so many details I wanted to leave in the image. As for the object at the end of the pole. (The piece setting on the wet cement.) It's a "bull float" or "float". It's a 3 foot plate of aluminum that pivots slightly at the end of the pole allowing the operator to level the variations in the wet surface. They used to be made from wood and weren't nearly so long and they were very heavy. They also didn't use to pivot, which adds a tremendous benefit and avoids stretching your arms as high as they will go while standing on the tips of your toes to try and prevent it from digging in. Glad for your visit. ~Sky

Kim, I'm glad you liked the treatment and the photo. I decided on black and white to reduce the distractions and allow one to peruse all the details in the photo. There were antlers everywhere. This was on a 6000 acre game ranch. I wanted to take the truck and shoot the whole place. They apparently have several Boone & Crockett's roaming the property. I always feel like I should have taken more pictures once they are uploaded. There's always next time. ~Sky

Sounds like an interesting place! Bob and I smoothed our own concrete for our patio, and we were quite proud of ourselves until the kids came along and asked why it looked so bad:~) Then the wind blew and textured it with impressions of elm seeds...I'll bet this guy was exhausted!

Hello Pnina, Thank you. As for the clothing, this is standard workwear around these parts. I promise he didn't dress for the camara. ~Sky
