I'm not alone

This is a good "image" but hardly a photograph. I'm with the one or two other contributors who feel that Photo of the Week should be about genuine, honest images and not fantasy files that emerge from Photoshop.

 

The "shaft of sunlight", for example, has been created by the manipulator, no doubt the mist has found its way into the picture by the same route. I can't tell for sure but the jetty looks like it may have come from another file, the birds, too. Everything is fake about it - right down to the "shadow" under the bench.

 

Images like this make HDR look like black and white documentary work. They're the digital equivalent of those fairy pictures that spiritualists produced in the early 20th century.

This photo has a cinematographic quality.

Whatever media he chose, the artist beautifully rendered a very melancholy scene. I think the title "I am not alone." refers to the person being in a place he went to with someone he loved and he feels less lonesome whenever he is there. Perhaps that is why he is there on such an unpleasant day.

Wonderful, just wonderful image

For me, everything works great on this piece of work, except the two persons on the boat. This two persons look and feel like if they where cut from a kids cartoon book and pasted in. If you cut off the two persons from the boat, and leave just an empty boat, it would be a masterpiece. If you leave the picture the way it is, for me It will be a really good attempt that missed an outstanding opportunity. Hopefully I`m not being too harsh. Best regards!

Tilted horizons generally really bother me, but I think straightening in this case would have caused a much more noticable tilt of the bench and horizontal lines on the dock in the foreground. Frankly, I didn't even notice the tilted horizon until I started reading the coments. Like everyone else, I think this is a great shot.

I'm not crazy about fantesy but this works for me. I wouldn't worry about the horizen, it just adds to the atomsphere, I read it more like a painting and I really like that you found what you needed to express what you wanted to say. Well thought and well felt.

This was my favorite photo of this week.
