Pierre Dumas 303 Posted May 20, 2009 Deleted and reposted with the comments: Photographer's Request for Critique --Pierre Dumas The one with a story in it My previously uploaded photo was with a quite different approach to the same item. I wonder what will be the verdict here. Thank you very much Critiques Francesco Martini [subscriber] , December 18, 2003; 04:20 P.M. fantastic image!!! Congrats!!! Mark Skelly [subscriber] , December 18, 2003; 04:24 P.M. I think it would be stronger with only the foreground light effect. This would simplify the story. I wonder who the guy is below the lamp? Christian Deichert [Hero] [subscriber] , December 18, 2003; 04:31 P.M. Neat idea. As long as you're changing day to night, it would help if there were shadows that matched the new light source: under the lamps and behind/ahead of the people, as appropriate. Don't other people usually wait for sailors under street lights? Odd to see it the other way around... :) Pierre Dumas [Frequent poster] , December 18, 2003; 04:33 P.M. (edit | delete) Reply to Mark I guess you are right, Mark. I also wonder what those guys masked as sailors were doing on the streets of Prague. They probably offered the services of some night club or such. They were everywhere, but I didn't have a closer encounter and I didn't find out what they were exactly doing. It is of no importance when it is obvious that it is some kind of struggle for life, I think. Thank you for your comments guys! Pierre Dumas [Frequent poster] , December 18, 2003; 04:59 P.M. (edit | delete) Reply to Christian You are absolutely right, Christian. I did my best for that matter. Obviously couldn't fool a careful viewer. But, I don't think the art should be aimed towards showing that kind of truth. Besides there are the circumstances that don't always allow us to do it the way you suggest: My point and shoot camera with no tripod and a very poor largest aperture of f5,6 and ISO 400 film, the color distorting artificial light with low color temperature, my short and limited stay in the wonderful city of Prague and such. Thank you for your comment Michael Nigro [subscriber] , December 18, 2003; 08:13 P.M. Just a wonderful image that reflects a lot of thought and technical proficiency. Well done. ken osborn [subscriber] , December 18, 2003; 09:05 P.M. Hi Dumas - This day to night treatment is certainly a creative idea and the image is very eye catching. I think it would be better if the people in the street were a bit more shaded as light from the lamp should fall off with the square of the distance and you have given it more of a linear relationship, I think. - Ken . Sigfrid Lopez [subscriber] [Current POW Recipient] , December 19, 2003; 03:58 A.M. Very creative and atmospheric, although maybe a little bit too sharp in the spotlights. Outstanding, anyway. Paolo Rella [subscriber] , December 20, 2003; 06:05 P.M. This is a really wonderful shot... congrants! Allan Jensen , December 20, 2003; 06:57 P.M. Very creative Pierre.
