drymanphoto 0 Posted December 19, 2002 Nice shot. Do you think it would be any better with the entire top of the large tree showing? Link to comment
mg 0 Posted December 19, 2002 The 2 small centralized dark trees taken too much attention. Not bad but the composition can imo be improved. Link to comment
alison_reynolds 0 Posted December 19, 2002 Making this photo black and white gives it a magical air... And it still has great depth. Link to comment
alex_swain1 0 Posted December 19, 2002 Very nice digital infrared! Digital infrareds always come out superior to their film counterpart. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted December 19, 2002 One of the better digital IR images I've seen. Wonderful tonality. Link to comment
john_timlin1 0 Posted December 19, 2002 a beautiful classic photo, terrific balance. (Gouguenheim is no landscaper) Link to comment
trevor_hopkins 0 Posted December 19, 2002 I've been impressed with the quality of many digital IR images I've seen on this site, and this is another fine example. I'd disagree with Alex's contention that they are superior to traditional IR film, however. This landscape suffers from a problem I've seen with other digital IR images, namely bleached highlights. Possibly this is just a result of careless 'curves' control or excessive contrast in Photoshop, but I suspect good old Kodak High Speed Infrared will still provide you a better tonal range to start with. The real measure of superiority will show when you produce a 16x12" print from a digital camera and compare it to an emulsion-based image. That said, the convenience of digital IR justifies its popularity and if it allows folks to experiment with new ways of seeing the world, all well and good. Compositionally, I'd agree with Marc (who doesn't need to shoot landscapes to be qualified to judge them) in that the stubby central shrubs form too strong a focal point. But short of employing a chainsaw, I think Rachel has done as well as she could with this scene and the result is certainly very attractive. Link to comment
Brad Bradley 0 Posted December 21, 2002 Fine image but imo not as refined as a film based IR photo. Agree with Trevor regarding the washed out highlights and again that the convenience is too hard to resist when compared to what you have to do to take a film based IR or for that matter a UV photo. Handsome shot Rachel, good work, Brad Link to comment
alberto.conde 0 Posted December 21, 2002 I disagree with Marc about the two shrubs. IMO they give strength to the pic. I would however, crop out the shrubs in the bottom forground. Very good. Link to comment
