Thank you for taking the time to show me what you think, and I'm glad you wanted to have sometime with this photo. It is of course a personal taste, but for me the poster of the girl in your version is too strong vs. the rest, and composition wise it is "jumping " out of the frame taking too much attention from the rest....I do find it a good critique discussion though. ;-))

I do like your second upload more. Your second version has revealed a bit more detail in the shadows and increased the contrast to give it more snap. I believe that I understand the effect you are wanting with the poster appearing different to the remainder of the scene. Being a photo of a poster it is of course different to the rest of the scene. It would be easy to make a selection and adjust the poster to look liker the street but that would work against your goals.

There are so many approaches and results that could be achieved with any one file. I was not trying to suggest any given way as correct. I only thought that since it is such a successful image you could wring some more details and life out of the file :-).

For what it may be worth here is my attempt to dig some detail out of the shadows and adjust the contrast of the poster a touch.

Thanks for your follow up and example, your version is more balanced , but lost the atmosphere I wanted to leave. My aim was to balance the composition like an X ( crossed). The lower R side shadowed also because of the sunshade ( and as I saw it) with the dark window on the upper L side. The girl's poster on the lower L, accentuated but not much , a bit brighter with the upper R side. I think it looks nice in my second attempt( thank to both of you) and I will change my 1st version and upload it here for comparison.

In any event I think thats how critique should be, so thanks for the help I have received from all of you that pushed me to enhance this photo.( it will take time to show of course, PN is slow on this....)

This is quite remarkable, Pnina. It looks more like a montage of sorts than an abstraction from reality. It is hard to believe that this is actually what you saw, but here it is. I would like to see the larger context, a wider view, just to see how this fit into the actual street scene before you constructed your own composition from it.

The black and white treatment is exquisite, in my opinion.

Thanks all of you!

Thanks for your visit and comment . As I wrote before it was taken quite some time ago, and it is the only frame I kept. I'm sure nowadays it is not existing anymore in that form....

What a coincidence Lannie, I thought writing to you... I read the thread you have started of " The power and the glory", interesting and not easy for my English. It is a good subject , and also because only ONE woman has participated in that topic...and I see it as very significant for the subject discussed at lenght,as the only side represented is men's side (only), so for me it lacks parity and women point of view. Interesting as well is the fact that no one of you participants, have asked the question why women are not participating in that thread, as the topic basically deals with woman's nudity as models....

There is a lot to say, but it is off topic as it is, (and I'm traveling tomorrow night for a week to Italy, so I have things to do...;-))

A very nice street shot and balancing act, Pnina. I like how you placed the two characters in the bottom and top corners as a diagonal. It creates a nice opposition with the flat plane composition and the real-life passer-by that walks across the frame horizontally. A nice study on planes.
