sledding Taking Flight

I guess this could be categorized as street. Sledding at the local play yard.

This pic was taken with spot metering and on shutter priority at 1/500 and with

a +1 compensation to bring out the white in the snow. Manually focused. It

was later in the day (overcast) and the aperture was roughly 5.3 - 5.6.

1/500th is way too fast a shutter speed for this type of photography. Except for the look of concentration on the boy's face you could have gotten the same photo if he had been sitting there posing. You night even have gotten the expression with a bit of coaching.

 

Try it again at 1/200th second, panning to follow the action.

Well isolated subject and good choice of subject color and contrast. Subject clarity is excellent.

 

Limited background information reduces the subject's connection with the overall frame. High speed shutter makes the subject look posed. Try a smaller aperture (f8?) and slower shutter to bring a little more background into the scene and create a more active subject.

color - ja, composition - hm... idea - what?

The object is nicely isolated from the background. The colors are attractive. But the whole scene is rather static. A much slower shutter speed could probably bring some action into the photo
