I walked in on these hip hop dancers while they were doing a set piece

for a group I was late for.

Imaginatively, they improvised and encorporated me into their rap

(which was initially quite alarming). Afterwards I got chatting to

them and did some loose portraits of which this is the best.

To me it's the Peckham girl gang look that speaks volumes about inner

city life.

Agree with Peter about the great story! I like the simple perspective on the wall, as with the close up distortions on the ladies, it seperates them, and brings them forwards through contrast, giving an 'in your face' look which compliments their apparent attitudes!

Very well thought out, its a shame the hit-and-run 3/3 rater doesnt appreciate good photography when its not a close up of a pretty woman.

The more i look at this, the better it gets.

Thanks to both of you. I think you are right about tightening the crop. I think I used a 5omm on this one. Whereas getting using a wide angle lens and getting them to lean in with me shooting from above would have added more drama. With a lot of these shots I have 30 seconds and don't know what I'm getting until it arrives. It hones the reflexes :-)

What is a hit and run 3/3 rater? Sorry to sound so ignorant, I still haven't quite got the hang of this website.

you get rated by people directly or anonymously.. you put up a good photo, get a bunch of 6/6 and 5/5s and often a couple of 3/3's which means they seriously did not like the photo.. or more often someone wasnt looking for your type of photo, and rather than not rate it they give 3/3.. i find it irritating, i would only give 3/3 to a very poor shot, which i would probably not rate to begin with, unless there was one large but fixable flaw in an otherwise good shot.. ok rant over.

Thanks Richard, I'll have to take a look at ratings. I must admit I haven't given ratings to anything on the site and haven't looked for mine either, It's a whole other area yet to be discovered.

Take the high rating as read in the meantime for your work.

the kids have 'attitude' and so does the picture, but the color presentation runs counter (or better, does not re-enforce the vibe).

I like the picture and played with it some... Cropped, B&W, etc... I hope you get to see it but you'll have to let me know where to send it. (I come to think it's not right to deface an artist pages with other peoples ideas)
