Red Rose on Yellow Background

What are peoples opinions on the colours? I am happy with the shape

and crop, but am not sure about the colours? Is it vulgar? Any

comments or ratings much appreciated. Thanks!!

Colors are fine and fit the composition, but I don't like the fact that the upper right side of the rose bleeds color really bad. Note that the lower left looks saturated, but holds detail. Distracting.

Oversaturated in my opinion. The combination of magenta and yellow doesn't do it for me. I think complementary colors would go better (ie, red rose and purple background)--if you look at Robert Mapplethorpe's flower photos, that is what he did, and what gives those flowers such appeal.

Also, the colors are so saturated that you have lost any tonality in the image--there are just a couple shades of red visible in the rose.

This would work for an advertisement where you wanted to get people's attention. It's too bright and garish to stare at for long. In my pictures, I also have a problem with red flowers getting oversaturated. I don't know the solution, except maybe stopping down one.

Hardly vulgar but I agree, too saturated. You said you felt this way in your opening remarks. I think most times listening to your gut feelings pays off. I also agree a cooler color for the background would have improved it. Otherwise, nice shot.

Jarring colors. I find it very dramatic. My eye instantly shot to the rose. Great composition.
