A flicker en route to the feeder shelters in the lee of the tree trunk on a very blustery

day. Comments/critiques welcome.

Thanks. B.C. These are pretty large birds, and he was fighting against the wind. He kept fluttering his wings to keep his balance and hold on the tree trunk. Usually they are very wary, but I think he was very hungry when I shot this.

Gail and Eddie - thank you very much for your comments. I really enjoy watching and photographing birds. I can see bird watching as a major activity in my life when I'm too old to enjoy the more rigorous "fun" stuff.

Thank you Paola. It took me a while to finally get a decent photo of one of these birds. I had thought itmight take longer - and still want to try and get an even better photo, but as summer comes and the insects are out, they visit the feeder less frequently.

Thanks, Glenn, I had to crop this on the sides only. The right side a a small piece of the feeder dome protruding into the photo. The left side was a bit of a mess as it had a lot of blue reflection from the foam insulation I used to make a window insert "bird blind" - I got the photo framing a little too close to the edge when this Flicker showed up suddenly, and I had to get off several shots in a hurry... and the blue reflection isn't easily obvious in the view finder. The good news - I was able to salvage an interesting photo of a very wary bird! (F/8 and be there with Lady Luck at your side!)
